Best Paper Finalist at PowerGen Europe

During PowerGen Europe 2011 in Milan, Carsten Bo Petersen, Lead Project Engineer at BWE, was selected by the Best Paper Awards Committee as one of the three finalists for the conference paper "Conversion of a Traditional Coal Fired Boiler to a Multi Fuel Biomass Unit Technology: Vibration Grate & Dust Burners Plant: Herning/Denmark/Dong Energy" within track 4 "Coal firing, Biomass Combustion and Energy from Waste.

The paper presents the unique combination of dust firing and grate firing technologies for large-scale biomass fired boilers which have been implemented with great success by BWE at Herning Power Plant.

The Nordic countries have a long tradition for biomass combustion and development of biomass combustion systems. The BWE technologies for dust and grate firing have contributed significantly to this development during the last two decades.

Both technologies are characterized by fuel flexibility, low auxiliary power consumption, high availability and very low maintenance cost which are highly important issues in today's power production.
