BWE is to Supply the World's Largest Straw-Fired Grate Boiler

On the 21st of November 2014 Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractors A/S signed a contract for a biomass plant, located in Snetterton in East Anglia - Eastern England, with Iceni and ECO2.

The Snetterton Renewable Energy Plant is a power plant, which primarily will be firing locally produced straw and will have a power capacity of 44.2 MW. The production will be equivalent to the energy consumption of 82,000 households and will result in a yearly CO2 reduction of 300,000 tons.

BWE is the selected boiler contractor while BWSC shall construct the power plant, and will also be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the plant over a 12-year period.

With a fuel input of 130 MWth the Snetterton boiler will be the world's largest water cooled vibrating grate straw-fired boiler.

The power plant is expected to be in operation by spring 2017.
