Biomass fired Boilers

Multi fuel flexible firing technology

BWE offers both Biomass fired natural circulated drum type boilers and high efficiency once-through boilers (Benson) with Super Critical steam data.

For combustion of Biomass three different firing systems can be supplied:

  • Grate firing of straw delivered as bales
  • Grate firing of chips-like Biomass with pneumatic spreaders
  • Traditional Low-NOx burner firing with milling plant for pellets

Grate firing is available for fuel input up to 150 MW. BWE uses a water cooled vibration grate firing technique. This requires less fuel preparation than e.g. pulverized fuel firing. Fuel handling and preparation equipment is therefore substantially reduced compared to Low-NOx burner applications.

The burner firing technique has the advantages of high fuel inputs and multi fuel abilities. Biomass pellets is a rather standardised fuel that can be utilized using traditional coal firing equipment, including milling plant and pneumatic transport. BWE has developed this technique to a flexibility where the fuel range goes from 100% coal to 100% biomass pellets. BWE Low-NOx burners of today operate on natural gas, LFO, HFO, pulverised coal and Biomass pellets - all in one unit.
